The mission of Community Action Programs Cayuga/Seneca (CAP) is to cultivate a community where all people are respectfully supported and empowered to embrace opportunities for learning, growth and economic security.
CAP has rewarding opportunities available in over a dozen programs to match your skills and abilities. We strive to provide every volunteer with meaningful activities that fit your schedule.
Nutrition
- Stocking pantry shelves with incoming food
- Unloading food items from truck or boxes
- Creating and packing food baskets for the mobile food pantry and Head Start Backpack Program
- Assisting with mobile food pantry deliveries
- Coordination of mobile food pantry including home deliveries
Food Recovery Assistant
- Assisting Food Security Coordinator with deliveries to local food pantries in Cayuga and Seneca Counties
- Loading, stacking and unloading cases of food in our warehouse
- Repacking donated loads of food for delivery
- General support to Food Security Coordinator
CAP Closet Free Clothing
- Receiving and processing donations
- Washing and hanging clothes
- Setting up clothes and household goods displays
- Assisting customers with clothing and household needs
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
Volunteer Transportation
- Volunteer drivers provide safe, reliable transportation to eligible individuals to well-visits, non-emergency, medical care, employment, training and workforce development meetings
- Drivers will be reimbursed the current federal mileage reimbursement at $.62.5.

General Volunteer Requirements
- Must work well with others
- Must be able to treat clients with compassion, dignity and sensitivity
- Maintaining confidentiality
- Ability to safely lift up to 25 pounds; recommended, not required and may vary by task
